Mutombo Re-Signs

Moose here, just thought I'd bring this to everyone's attention: Dikembe Mutombo just re-signed with the Rockets. The Celtics fan in me says "Dammit!". I wanted Deke, but you guys can have him, Hursty and RV. Mutombo has signed with them for the remainder of the season, and the 42 year old center is probably done after this year, his 18th (Holy crap! Did I read that right?).

Anyways, everyone remember to check the other posts, and I have one coming out this week on our favorite undersized big man in the NBA (care to guess who it is?). Anyways, Deke is back in Houston, and the Celtics remain defensive-minded-veteran-signing-less for the moment. Thoughts, Rockets' fans?

Deke isn't the answer for the Rockets, but I'm glad he's back in Houston as opposed to any other city (no offense, Moose).

It's all good, Ryne, I appreciate the thought :). I can't wait for the PJ Brown-like signing that the C's are gonna make, but I can't put my finger on who it's going to be. Any ideas, thoughts?

Great question. There really doesn't seem to be a similar player out there right now. I know reporters are saying the Celtics need a player like Brown, but why? I actually think the Celtics are better than they were last season. Their young bigs are improved and much more experienced, so I don't really see the need. The Celtics are still the no. 1 team, in my opinion.

I am with you. Just, the veteran defensive-minded player is in need. I think that we need a guy like PJ or Deke to keep the younger guys in line on the court during crunch time while Garnett is off of it, PJ really helped with that. And, we're thin on the height. Our tallest player is our 6'11" power forward, and our tallest player off the bench is 6'8" (O'Bryant doesn't count). An experienced big would help develop the younger guys even faster, they'd get used to it more. We'd have Cassell for the guards, and (blank) for the bigs). Garnett is a help, yes, but PJ-like signing would be helpful for insurance (not to mention assurance) to our bench. I'd like a pickup like that, takes a little pressure off.

I am not a Rockets fan, but i dont see this doing anything more than giving yao 5-10 more minutes of rest each night.

Antonie Walker or Joe Smith = PJ '09

The reasons you were hearing trade possiblities for Landry etc to get Mihm, is because the Rockets were unsure of whether Deke would come back... thats pretty obvious, but since no-one has mentioned it.
bet- thats all that Deke has to do.
The Celtics should get Gehrorge Miustain back... or they could just re-sign Zo out of retirement? Damn, i cant even remember anything about Zo...

If the Celtics don't pick up Antoine and at least let him ride the pine on a possible championship run, it's a damn shame.

Zo in a Celtics uni wouldnt make any sence. I just dont see it.

Considering that he and PP ran the team for 3 or 4 years, yes it would be.
