Andrew, you work at a shoe place in melbourne right? Go on... Im very interested.

I run the footwear department in a country town sports store that my Dad owns. I grew up around kicks and basketball, hence, I've developed a nice collection. Also, I've worked for at least 6 (off the top of my head) jobs that somehow involve sneakers, four of which involve the quasi-scientific fitting of performance sneakers. To be frank, I've forgotten more than most people know about basketball shoes, and have what could be termed as an encyclopaedic knowledge of the things. Ask me stuff.

'Ask me stuff'- I like that. What about the huaraches(sp?) they any good?

Andrew said...

Huaraches will always be sweet. Depends what you want in a sneaker though - some dudes find them a little lacking in the structure aspect around the ankles, but that's just a personal thing... most Nikes that retail over AU$180 are a pretty safe bet...

Man.... I need all the ankle support I can get, I've had 3 broken ankles, 4 'sprains' and ligament damage (torn) between all of that and inclusive. Nasty stuff lol. Its cost me about 2 years of game time all up I reckon and thousands of $ in expenses. I tape before every game now.
I have the Durant Nike's now. Theyre allright, solid but not spectacular.

The KDs are nice for the price... I have those instore next month. What colour did you get em in? Apparently they were gonna change from the sonics colours after the relocation...

Mostly black. They have orange dots/stripes (sort of) and some blue around the bottom. Orange laces.

what brands you get in shop andrew?

Andrew said...

Nike, adidas, Hops, currently winding down the And-1 stock because its rubbish.

Andrew said...

oh, and jordan brand...

Hey Hursty,

Thanks for your comment. And that's a pretty scary list of injuries you got there that... rivals / exceeds mine, ha.

Having worn everything from Nike, Fila, Adidas, New Balance, etc. over the years, IMHO Adidas shoes offer better, more solid support than Nike ones do. They may not be as sleek or pretty as the Nikes are usually, but Adidas're just plain solid and downright unrivaled in their functionality and durability.

PS. The Rockets are must-watch TV right now, for better or worse.

My personal preferance of basketball shoes are Puma and Fila and Nike. Puma and Fila have the best ankel support IMO (Fila F-13s are my favorite shoe all time and can be had for $10-$50 here in the States) but Nikes give something in quaility no other shoe can

Joe - I second your opinion on the structure of adidas kicks, but I can't stand the feel of them... I've been spoilt by having so many pairs of soft, supportive Nikes/Jordans that putting on a top-end adidas shoe just feels flat and board-like in comparison. Still, everyone feels different things with shoes. What I am interested in is the Puma comment, BETCATS- they don't bring out any ball shoes to Australia (and are considered out here to be the poor cousin of the sporting goods industry with their performance product). What styles have you worn from them, BET?

Andrew said...

Oh, Hursty, I hope that's the colourway we end up with... I'm sick of Red/Black/White...

Hursty said...

Yeh had a look at em. They black and white. Its kinda circly in a swirl type thing. Blue and orange in some areas. Orange laces.
Not the pretties shoe, but good none the less.
Oh, checked out eastbay... sick man. sooo good.
Joel, did I mention that I've broken two vertebrae in my back and done nerve damage to my hip?
Stupid Kevin Durant man.... he played good though that last 10 minutes. But the team on the court was garbage. Yao played good I reckon. 15 and 16 with 3. In 24 minutes.

T-Mac 3's all the way

Andrew said...

Yeah, Eastbay is the business. I remember cousins of mine used to get the catalog from them when we were kids. We'd drool over the official NBA jerseys and the latest Barkleys and Jordans, and wish we were old enough to have credit cards and lived in America. Now I wish we just had a better exchange rate - they got the Air Pippens there!!

DP said...

yeah, eastbay clearance section will always be able to hook you up with some nice prices.

Not sure whether I like the TMAC 3's or 2's better. Probably the 3s but the twos were always real comfortable.
